How the New Rates Waiver Scheme Is Supporting Businesses Across County Monaghan

A new Rates Waiver Scheme has been introduced from 5th January by Monaghan County Council (Ireland), a key initiative aimed at getting vacant commercial properties back into use and encouraging new business investment across County Monaghan.

With all the challenges that our urban centres face, it’s crucial that we retain and strengthen the retail and business offering so that we ensure there is a healthy and vibrant mix of commercial premises, social and community services and homes in our towns and villages.

The new Rates Waiver Scheme is designed to foster economic growth and support local enterprise by offering financial relief to eligible businesses. Under the scheme, owners or occupiers who take over a commercial property that has been vacant for more than twelve months can receive a rates waiver for up to one year, valued at up to €10,000.

The Rates Waiver is particularly relevant to:

🌱Existing businesses in County Monaghan who are looking to expand or open a new commercial premises anywhere in the county. 🌱Businesses from outside the county who are interested in opening a new commercial premises anywhere in County Monaghan.

This scheme will help reduce the financial burden for new and expanding businesses, create opportunities for entrepreneurs and provide vital support from Monaghan County Council to help build a thriving local economy. By encouraging the occupancy of empty commercial premises, the scheme also aims to generate new jobs, sustain ongoing employment, tackle vacancy and dereliction and enhance the vitality and vibrancy of towns and communities throughout the county.

This scheme is a practical step in our ongoing commitment to support economic development and regeneration in County Monaghan. By reducing the financial barriers for businesses and encouraging the use of vacant commercial properties, we are helping to create new opportunities, generate employment and strengthen our local communities.
