Fuel Income Support Scheme Payments Begin for Irish Farmers and Contractors

Payments have commenced under Ireland’s Fuel Income Support Scheme for marked gas oil (MGO/green diesel) usage, issuing €20.7 million to the first batch of 29,464 eligible farmers and agricultural contractors.

Payment and Scheme Details

  • Start of Payments: Announced by Minister Martin Heydon on July 22, 2026, with funds arriving in bank accounts over subsequent days.
  • Calculation Rate: Based on the equivalent of 5 months’ usage (March to July 2026) of total MGO used in 2025 multiplied by 20 cents per litre.
  • Average Payouts: Approximately €4,000 for contractors and over €600 for farmers in this initial batch.
  • Thresholds: Minimum payment is €100 (requiring usage over 1,200 litres in 2025); maximum payment is €50,000. Total expected final allocation is around €27 million.
