Amatino Manucci: The Legacy Behind Our Name
At Amatino, our name honours Amatino Manucci, a pioneering 13th–14th century Florentine merchant and accountant. Though little is known about his personal life, his work represents a foundational moment in financial history. Manucci is credited with some of the earliest surviving records of double-entry bookkeeping, dating back to around the year 1300.
This innovative system—where debits and credits are recorded in parallel—allowed businesses to track assets and liabilities with a new level of accuracy. It revolutionised commercial record-keeping and laid the groundwork for modern accounting practices that would spread across Europe and remain in use centuries later.
While history often highlights more famous Renaissance financiers, Amatino Manucci’s precision and structure helped shape the financial systems that support business and trade to this day.
At Amatino, we proudly carry his name as a symbol of accuracy, integrity, and innovation in accounting.
