Receivers are appointed over the assets of an individual or company at the request of a debenture holder who hold the asset(s) as security. The powers of the receiver will be set out in detail in the debenture document.
It is normally the function of the receiver to take possession of the secured assets, and realise them in order to pay off the debenture holder. In other cases the receiver may take the course of continuing to operate the business in order to maximise the value of the assets.
