A 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince on January the 12th with devastating effects. Amatino Partners joined the Concern Haiti Earthquake Appeal by collecting for the worthy cause both in their offices and in Dunnes Stores in Cavan and Monaghan.
The earthquake was the worst to have hit the country in 200 years. With a population of 2 million people in Port-au-Prince and a total national population of 10 million people, 80% of the country lives below the poverty line.
Amatino Partners, Accountants and Business Advisors, would like to thank the staff and management of Dunnes Stores Cavan and Monaghan for their assistance and support on the 5th and 6th of February during the collection. They would also like to sincerely thank those who kindly donated to this very worthy cause.
Brid Kennedy of Concern commented: “The first month of our current six-month recovery plan has reached one third of the 150,000 earthquake-affected people we are targeting. We’ve provided water, sanitation and shelter, but the road to recovery will be long.”
The earthquake has destroyed between 2,000 and 4,500 schools and Concern are actively targeting 18,000 school children with primary education and creating ‘child friendly spaces’ in camps which will provide safe play and learning areas for an additional 4,000 children.
All funds collected and donated by Amatino Partners have been lodged to the appeal and will go directly to the areas in Haiti worst affected by the earthquake.
